Firefox Android Smartphones - Keon & Peak

Mozilla recently unveiled a preview of Firefox Android Smartphones this month supporting the new Firefox OS.

The first handset dubbed as Firefox Keon features a 3.5-inch HVGA touchscreen. The processor tasked to run the multitude of applications and functions is the 1GHz Snapdragon S1 CPU that is paired up with 500MB of RAM. Storage is not an issue as it has 4GB of space that can be further expanded through microSD. In terms of connectivity, it comes with WiFi and 2G/3G antennas found inside its frame. For capturing stills and images, it supports 3MP although it doesn’t have any front-facing camera. It also comes equipped with a 1,580 mAh battery unit.

Meanwhile, its other sibling known as Firfox Peak packs more punch featuring a 4.3-inch qHD screen, 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor and dual cameras (8-megapixel rear facing with flash and 2-megapixel front-facing). It also has a larger 1,800maH battery.

As of the moment, its development is getting all the attention as Firefox OS is purely open source although it’s still hard to say if this new device can pose as a threat for Android and iOS in the future. For those who have the chance to get the developer handsets, it’s confirmed you’ll receive future updates via OTA (over-the-air).

The availability of the first units are expected to arrive next month. Pricing is yet to be confirmed.
